ToggleForensic Science Laboratory is a facility that uses scientific methods and techniques to analyze physical evidence in order to aid in the investigation of crimes. These forensic labs typically employ a wide range of scientists, including forensic biologists, forensic examiners, and chemists to analyze evidence such as fingerprints, DNA, and trace materials. The findings from these analyses can be used in criminal trials to help establish guilt or innocence in the court. Some forensic labs are affiliated with law enforcement agencies, while others are independent organizations.
The Directorate of Forensic Science Service (DFSS) created in the year 2002 by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India, after bifurcation from BPR&D, based on the recommendations of National Human Rights Commission and Padmanabhaiah Committee on Police Reforms.
MHA vide its Order issued the Gazette notification no. 25011/41/2001-GPA.II/PM-II on December 31, 2002. It headed by Director-cum-Chief Forensic Scientist.
There are Seven Central Forensic Science Laboratories in India.
