New Delhi: The central government has appointed retired IPS officer Anish Dayal Singh as the new Deputy National Security Advisor (Deputy NSA). Singh, a 1988-batch officer of the Manipur cadre, has held several top positions in India’s security forces during his distinguished career. The Ministry of Home Affairs officially announced his appointment.
Last year, the government entrusted Anish Dayal Singh with the additional charge of Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG). Before this, he served as the DG of CRPF and earlier led the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). He also handled additional responsibilities as DG of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
Roots in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj
Born in 1964 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, Singh was selected for the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1988. He completed his officer training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad. Coming from a reputed family, his brother Soumitra Dayal Singh served as a judge at the Allahabad High Court.
Over the decades, Singh has played key roles in India’s paramilitary and police organisations, gaining recognition for his leadership and operational expertise.
A Seasoned Security Leader
With experience across multiple security agencies — including CRPF, ITBP, NSG and SSB — Anish Dayal Singh brings a wealth of knowledge to the role of Deputy NSA. His appointment signals the government’s focus on strengthening the country’s national security framework with seasoned officers.
