Introduction
The skeletal remains of a suspected murder victim were discovered in a well near Madukkarai, Coimbatore, by local authorities on August 8. Law enforcement acted on a confession provided by two individuals, which led to a series of investigative measures, including draining the well to retrieve the remains.
Background of the Case
The victim, identified as 24-year-old Jayaraman from Tirunelveli district, was allegedly murdered by two individuals, D. Balamurugan (45) and P. Murugaperumal (25). Both suspects, also from Tirunelveli, surrendered to the Chettipalayam police on August 7 and admitted to the crime.
Circumstances Leading to the Murder
According to the police, Jayaraman and Murugaperumal arrived in Coimbatore two months ago seeking employment. With Balamurugan’s assistance, they secured jobs at a stud farm in Malumichampatti. Tensions reportedly escalated between the suspects and Jayaraman, culminating in a fatal confrontation at the farm.
The suspects confessed to disposing of the victim’s body in an abandoned well near Madukkarai following the incident.
Recovery of Evidence
Acting on the confession, the authorities conducted an on-site search, draining the well to uncover the remains. The retrieval included skeletal fragments suspected to belong to the victim, as well as non-human bones, likely of a dog.
Forensic Testing and Investigation
The skeletal remains have been sent for forensic analysis to confirm their identity and to determine if they indeed belong to Jayaraman. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to gather additional evidence to solidify the case against the accused.
