Trotter & Gleser derived these from mid-20th-century American samples. See the caveat below on applying them to Indian populations.
Stature declines after 30. Trotter & Gleser apply a correction of 0.06 cm per year above 30.

Report the range, not the point estimate. The standard error is a property of the regression, so a stature estimate is always an interval.
These are the Trotter & Gleser equations derived from American skeletal and military samples of the mid-twentieth century. Limb proportion varies between populations, so applying them to an Indian decedent introduces error beyond the stated standard error. For Indian casework use published regressions derived from Indian samples. Also note that a maximum femur length must be measured on an osteometric board, not estimated from a radiograph.
Long bone length correlates strongly with living stature, so a regression equation converts one to the other. Trotter and Gleser published the most widely used set in 1952 and 1958, with separate equations by sex and reference sample, each carrying its own standard error.
The femur gives the tightest correlation and the radius the loosest. Because every equation has a standard error of three to four centimetres, the honest output is an interval, and stature also declines with age, which the correction handles.
